The History of Solta

Despite its small size, its rich history dates back to the Illyrian period. In ancient times, Solta was an important hub for trade, especially in the olive oil industry.

Throughout history, the island has been occupied by many different groups, including the Romans, Byzantines, and Venetians. In the 15th century, the Ottoman Empire took control of Solta. It wasn’t until the 19th century that it became part of Croatia.

During World War II, the Italians and the Germans occupied the island. After the war, Solta became part of Yugoslavia, and in 1991, it became part of the newly-formed country of Croatia.

Today, Solta is a popular tourist destination known for its stunning natural beauty and laid-back atmosphere.
